Lucy goes to the ball … and hopefully she will bring it back. Lucy the Jack Russell stole the show dressed as Cinderella at Deerness Kennels’ Christmas Fayre on Sunday 29th November 2009 and won the award for ‘Best Dressed Panto Dog’. Lucy and her proud owner, Lynette Harris, were presented with the award by Chairman of Durham County Council, Councillor Brian Myers, and his wife Alice. Lucy dressed in a bright pink satin coat with white fur trim was lost for words, but her owner said "Lucy was a rescue dog and we got her from Deerness Kennels last March. We are thrilled with her and so glad we could support the kennels with their valuable work at this time of year." The Deerness Kennels Christmas Fayre is an annual fundraising event and, in spite of the poor weather, this year’s Fayre was well attended by record numbers of two and four legged visitors. Many of the dogs attending the Fayre were former rescue dogs. Councillor Myers praised the work of the kennels and said "I was delighted to be invited to Deerness Kennels this year. The staff at the kennels work extremely hard to care for and re-home animals. Events like this help to increase awareness of the work they do and raise funds to help them continue their valuable work." Deerness Kennels is based in Langley Moor and takes in stray dogs from County Durham and Darlington. No healthy dog will be destroyed and the rescue centre provides a safe haven until a kind loving home can be found. For further information contact Kevin and Linda Forsyth at Deerness Kennels on 0191 378 0439. | WE HAD A FATASTIC DAY DISPITE THE WEATHER AND RAISED £947 POUNDS TO GO TOWARDS THE VET FEES
