TYSON IS A LOVELY OLDER STAFFIE DOG   7 Years Old
          CALL OVER TO WALK HIM

Feregal has gone out on trial
FERGAL IS A LOVELY BRINDLE STAFFIE DOG
                                1 YEAR OLD
Our Foster Lady Said

Fergals main ambition in life seems to be to make as many two and four legged friends as possible-he’s so gentle and friendly and full of joy and fun he was a real tonic to have for the weekend, I absolutely loved him. He loved his walks and meeting people and dogs, but also enjoyed chilling out in the house and spent a lot of time snoozing on the sofa, cuddled up to me or lying on my knee. He is so eager to please, he sits at every opportunity even when not asked to- for treats, putting lead on etc and was ever so gentle taking treats. Ive always been a bit wary of Staffies whose history is unknown but I sensed from the start I was in no danger from Fergal despite his strength, and anything I had to do to him like putting him in the car crate was greeted with friendly licks. He met loads of dogs on his walks and he was so well-behaved, no hackles ever raised at approaching dogs, just genuine friendliness despite his handicap of being always on the lead. He’s 100% house trained and didnt bark other than a couple of times when he got really excited and wanted me to play. Whereas cats purr when theyre happy and babies gurgle Fergal grunts like a pig which just adds to his charm. He has a lovely cherubic face which just suits his personality and he seems in tip-top condition. I took him to a beer garden for an hour to meet friends and he was a real hit and everyone took turns to have their photo taken with him. I didnt leave him alone in the house but when I left him in the car he seemed quite happy and confident Id be returning so doesnt seem to have separation anxiety. He saw a cat and looked like he wanted to make friends, sadly the cat didnt when confronted with a sturdy excited Staffie. He didnt meet any children but I was told by one of the kennel staff hes met small children in the kennels and was fine with them. Negative things-he pulls on the lead and is quite strong, and he jumps up at people to make friends but hes a young enthusiastic dog so I expected that and I reckon hes an easy dog to do further training with.

Fergal’s a really lovely, affectionate, adaptable dog wholl make a really loyal and loving pet, and give you hours of fun and laughter, its really hard not to fall in love with him.

GOOD NEWS FOR MOLLY SHE HAS GONE ON FOSTER WITH THIS LOVELY LADY
WITH A  VIEW TO REHOME HER

IVAN HAS GONE OUT ON TRIAL

We—2 kids, 8 and 11 years and me fostered Ivan for a weekend. He was just great from the very first moment we met him. We didn’t take the car, so we spent an hour to walk him back home. Ivan didn’t pull once, even when he saw pigeons not far from us, and was fine with all the other dogs, even barky ones. He accepted us as his pack straight away, always making sure that none of us was left behind and preferred walking between my daughter and me—but also loved the small spurts my daughter made with him..

Once at home it took him a while to settle, he made a thorough inspection of the living room and kitchen and only when we all sat down he accepted his blanket.

Ivan loves his food—he would heat heaps if you let him, but he doesn’t like people too close while he is nibbling his bone. He tried to please and isn’t noisy at all, we only heard him bark once when we stopped on our walk to make a few pictures. He listens to no’s and is keen on every little pat and hug he can get and didn’t show any aggressive behavior. Our weekend lurcher loves being in company, he followed me all around, sticking his nose in every drawer and cupboard, a nosy fellow who had lapdog qualities, if he wasn’t too big. We didn't leave him alone, so I don’t know what he is like on his own.

We have 2 cats—after an initial move to get close to them he didn’t bother again.

Ivan was absolutely lovely with the kids. Even my son’s loud play and boisterous behavior didn't irritate him. He doesn’t jump up, try to lick your face or similar.

Ivan would make a great companion for a family—after he had a bath—and is grateful for every little bit of tlc. Go and take him for a walk and you will know what I mean—he is such a sweety and would deserve a loving permanent home.

VICKY
Is a lovely shy Staffie Cross Bitch around 18 months
Call in to see her
OUR FOSTER MAN SAID
Vicky reminds me of Thorntons Special Toffee both in colour and in temperament. She is a softy and got on really well with my terrier Paddy. She is quite nervous especially when she hears loud noises. However once she settles she is a real sweety. She tends to pull on lead and started to respond eventually to lead commands on the long walk we were on. On the positive side if you are walking up a steep hill you will get to the top in double quick time with the help of Vicky pulling on her lead! But I am sure with the dedication of a new owner and help from Ian the kennels Dog Whisperer that will get sorted. She was quite as a mouse when we met a horse and rider on our travels and she was very gentle when taking treats out of my hand. I do hope Vicky gets rehomed soon. With patience, kindness and love Vicky will make someone a very special pet

FANTASTIC NEWS VICKY HAS FOUND A LOVELY HOME  06/03/2010

Vicky is a girl that just wants to please everybody around her. She is fully house trained and does not destroy things when left alone in the house. She is very healthy, has a shiny coat and is extremely fit. She is not hyperactive and does not demand constant attention. She gets along very well with my Lurcher. They play together, sleep on the same bed and eat at the same time. Vicky just knows how to measure her strength and plays with my delicate boy without hurting him. She is fine during walks, just pulls in the first 5 minutes. She is very obedient and knows how to sit and give paw. She sometimes is hand shy perhaps because she was badly treated before she came to the rescue. She shows interest in other dogs and children and is not aggressive whatsoever. Vicky will fit just fine in any household. She may be shy for the first day or so but then will definitely show her great personality. The only think I may add is that Vicky loves her food-she seems to be hungry all the time. She makes the funniest of noises sitting in front of the fridge. What is strange thought is that she does not steal food from my dog and is NOT food aggressive just tries her luck I guess.

To all potential adopters-please take a look at Vicky she really deserves a forever home.

WALTER HAS BEEN OUT ON A WEEKS TRIAL AND GREAT NEWS
HE HAS NOW FOUND A SUPER NEW HOME

JACOB is a super Lurcher dog 18 Months old
                        Call over to walk him

Jacob is a lovely affectionate dog and as soon as i went to pick him up for his walk he jumped up to give me a big hug and a lick.

He travelled well in the car to my home where i picked up my dogs to join him for a long walk.  He was a little wary/nervous at first of my dog but took to my bitch straight way although during the walk was quite happy walking along side of him and they kept brushing eash other as a way of getting close.
He walks fantastic on the lead and doesnt pull at all.

When i let my dogs off during the walk he did pull alittle bit to be off like a true lurcher to run and chase them when they whizzed past him but showed no agression as some lurchers/greyhounds sometimes do like bit of a nip at running objects if they have been trained to hunt or sometimes just through excitment.

He wasnt bothered at all of other passing dogs we saw on route, traffic, bikes or live stock although i have to admit he did get excited when he picked up the scent up of a rabbit and if he had been off the lead i think he would have been a gonna, so anyone who does adopt him would need to think about keeping him on a lead until they had built a good relationship up with him and feel confident he would come back and respond to a recall if he did see a rabbit.

After his long walk i took him home to give him some food before taking him back to the kennels. he does show signs of being a little bit food agressive so would need to keep an eye on this if you have other pets or young children but this can be worked on as my rescue dog was like this when we first got her as she must have at times been starved but once a dog understands and settles in and starts to trust their owner that food will available and understands they dont have to guard it because they will get more food later this tends to correct the behaviour.

Jacob is a very affectionate dog and i feel would make a very loyal companion to his new owner and would build a very strong bond quite quickly.
Jacob is Mr. Affectionate, a happy chappy who seems to have no doggy hang ups whatsoever.  He has clearly lived in a domestic situation before, he is house-trained and does not react to household noises such as the tv or hoover.  He eats whatever is put in front of him.  He loves to run and play with toys and he is brilliant on the lead, does not pull and does not pay any attention to other dogs when being walked.  He is, however, very switched on to rabbits.  He goes into the car elegantly and with ease and is quiet whilst travelling  though we have not been far.  After 3 days, we walked him off lead in a safe but wooded environment and, though he did his own thing, his recall was good. We have formed the opinion that he would be best suited to being an only dog as he does like to call the shots and will continually insist on asserting his dominance, which could in time have a detrimental effect on a less assertive dog. He is not at all aggressive, he just likes to live life in the fast lane.   An outdoorsy sort of family or a household with teenage children who could keep him stimulated mentally and physically would be ideal.  If we were in the situation of looking for a dog, we would certainly take him on.

BUTTONS IS A LOVELY DOG AROUND 5 YEARS NICE FRIENDLY NATURE

1 Year old Staffie Cross Bitch
Scarlet on foster

Scarlet is an absolute pleasure to have around the house, she is very well behaved and loves the children; my children are 6 and 2.  As she is only a puppy she does need training on a few things, these are she is not house trained (although she is not too bad) and she takes food out of anyone’s hands, I believe this is because she hasn’t been trained meaning she doesn’t know any better but with training I’m sure these problems could be sorted out in no time. She is really good on the lead and loves going out for walks, and she loves it when you go jogging with her, she only pulls for the start of the walk then she is fine and walks along side you.  She really enjoyed playing with the kids in the garden and chasing the next door neighbour’s dog up and down the fence. Scarlet will make someone a wonderful pet one day, if I didn’t have such a busy life during the week I would keep her myself, as she was a total joy to have around the house. Michelle

CASS WAS FOSTERED FOR A WEEKEND
OUR FOSTER MAN SAID
Three little words,
Cass is Class. She is a very loving dog full of beans and fully house-trained. She loves her walks and on our long walks we met a few different animals. She is very interested in sheep and horses but is not sure what to make of goats. After her walks she likes nothing better than snuggling right up to you and resting her head on your chest or your knee and if you stop tickling her tummy she gives you plenty of licks as a reminder. She is a little bit unsure of other dogs but if introduced on a walk on neutral territory gradually with leads on that should be OK. She tends to want to play a little too roughly with smaller dogs so it is worth bearing that in mind. She also has a tendency to play mouth your sleeve, trouser leg or hem of your shorts but this is out of affection and or excitement and could easily stop as she responds very well to firm commands and rewards including my trusted Tripe Sticks from Deerness Kennels. She settles really well overnight and likes to sleep on the bed you guessed it, snuggled up to you. I am sure if you decide to re-home Cass you will end up saying three little words to her I LOVE YOU.
I do hope Cass gets rehomed soon as she would make someone a wonderful loving pet.

  Tasha is a smasher
OUR FOSTER MAN SAID
its as simple as that. She is fully housetrained and has a fabulous temperament. She loves nothing better than snuggling in at your side or on your knee. She also settles really well overnight and lets you know if she wants to go to the lu by sitting on the second stair and wagging her tail She loves her walks and was fine with my neighbours dog Floss when took them both out for a walk together. She loves her tripe sticks and responds very well to commands. In fact when I gave her tripe sticks she sits and shakes hands before she gets them.  She is great with people and would make someone a fabulous pet. The only warning I would give you is this she may lick you to death.  Her name Tash suits her but from some angles she looks like a Hyena, a loveable Hyena though. So it might be worth looking at Hyena names from Madagascar or other films for a name for her. Whoever is lucky enough to rehome Tasha wont be sorry. She is a loving and devoted dog. I am very tempted to take her home and keep her

                                        JOE A SUPER LURCHER DOG

OUR FOSTER MAN SAID
Joe is a fantastic dog. He is a very loving and very steady dog. He got
on very well with my neighbours dog and was brilliant with her young
grandchildren. He would make a wonderful pet for anyone with a young
family. He likes his walks both long and short dependent how tired he
is! He likes nothing better than flopping down on the floor, flat out,
and have a doze after his walks  He particularly likes to lye down next
to or against something.
He is fully house trained. He seems to prefer sleeping on the floor
rather than getting up on the furniture. I also think his previous
owner didnt allow him upstairs as he wont go upstairs but Im sure in
time he will settle upstairs. I slept downstairs to keep an eye on him.
He was fine except for a couple of times when the clock chime disturbed
him, and me, when he came over to check I was OK and give me a lick.
Apart from that he was fine.
He is also very good off the lead and likes nothing better than walking
close behind  you  He also goes into extra alert mode when he smells or
sees RABBITS
Joe is like a previous Dog of the Week Mavis  Like Mavis if I was able
to have a dog full time then nobody else would be in with a chance, Id
have him  Hes a GOLD STAR
In the car hes also good as gold jumping in and then settling down
I do hope Joe gets rehomed soon as he would make his new owner very
happy Im sure  Oh yes and he loves his food, especially his Tripe
Sticks

FOSTERED OVER THE WEEKEND
REPORT
To all at the kennels
I thought I would write you a little bit of information on how Joes weekend went with our family, to help with his adoption.
Joe has not been a bit of bother, he could sometimes be a bit of a shadow following you around but that was mostly down I feel to deal with his new surroundings. Because we have 2 other family dogs another lurcher and a greyhound he quickly adapted to their routine and fitted in straight away.   He loves most food and was feed 3 balanced portions a day, he loved the tin of tuna and wholemeal bread he got for his breakfasts with toast after his morning walk. He loves all treats especially a little cut up cheese, marrowbones and mashed up weetabix with warm milk. With the right balanced diet, exercise routine  and care he could have a fabulous coat and body condition.  He got 2 long walks a day and this tired him out so most of the time he was quite docile and although he never jumped on the couch preferring the fluffy carpet to roll around on before he settled down for his nap he actually snores when in a deep sleep. Typical to the nature of lurchers and greyhounds also seems to like some home comforts it was quite comical after he had his walk and breakfast on the last day watching the 3 of them race upstairs to see who could get the best position to stretch out on the bed was quite funny although I am sure he wouldnt have done this if he wasnt encouraged by two other mischievous dogs
He is house trained and we had no accidents with him as he was also let out several times in the garden and last thing at night before going to bed. He got on fantastic with the other dogs although he did know them from the previous walking I have done with them he walks great on the lead and because he was with the other dogs came back with them when called while off. It was fantastic to see him run in the open fields and woods with the other dogs and seemed to have a great time playing and exploring.  My children adored him and him them, often making the effort to approach them to give them a lick in return for a stroke which was lovely to watch, so can be trusted with children.
Joe really is a fabulous boy who showed no destructiveness or aggression in fact a big softy, He had a bath, was groomed and even had his teeth brushed ready for is new owners and took it all in his stride. He should really be given a chance by a family because I think he would make a very loyal and trusted pet.  Because he is a large dog some people could be put off by him but he really does have a great personality and would fit in well, from what I have seen this weekend I think he just wants a family to love, look after and care from him right.  I think he deserves it.

JOE
message for any family who might want to adopt him.
Ive had the pleasure of walking Joe a couple of times now and he really is a pleasure. He can handle and manage long walks but think he would be really content with small ones as he just likes to be around other people and animals, hes just happy to spent time with you. he doesnt pull on the lead and shows no aggression towards other dogs infact he just wants to cuddle and lick my dog to make friends all the time with being a lurcher and usually being trained to chase moving objects you can never be sure what they are like around moving objects like bikes or livestock but he showed no interest in chasing some passing horses and cyclists infact was really placid towards them. he is also fantastic around children as my two sons came out the last time we took him for a walk and just loved the attention. I really feel He really will make someone a fantstic and loyal pet.
Joe is a Super Lurcher dog he is 2 to 3 Years of age

GREAT NEWS MAVI HAS BEEN ADDOPTED

 MAVIS
Is a Lovely 5 year old cross breed staffie type bitch
Our Foster Lady Said about her
After the initial inspection of my home and garden, I gave Mavis her bed, toys and a treat, she
soon settled in and made herself at home.
Mavis travels well in the car. She enjoys going for both long and short walks. She loves being able to run free off her lead, she never runs far from you and is always checking to make sure you are there and returns to you when called. After a good run about, Mavis loves to crash out somewhere warm and comfortable. (She does like her comfort!) We have met many dogs on our travels and Mavis has been great with them.
Mavis loves having her own toys and shows them to everyone she meets. She has chewed her toys, but only her toys. She is very intelligent and she knows she can only play with her things and has not damaged anything in my home. As Mavis does not like dry dog food, she enjoys, and needs, a bone or chew treat to have a good old chew on to ‘clean’ her teeth. She loves attention, likes to play and has several dog naps throughout the day.
Mavis is a very affectionate dog and great company. She loves snuggling beside you for cuddles and is quite happy having a nap with her head on your knee. She also enjoys sitting on your knee or being cuddled like a baby, only thing is, given her size…….!
I fostered Mavis one weekend and had to go back to foster her again the next as she is such a wonderful dog. If only I could have a dog full time, you wouldn’t be getting the chance with this one!
Mavis is a very special dog, she will make a loving and loyal companion. She is a lovely, patient, happy tail wagging dog.
Our foster Gentleman said
Hi Linda & Kevin
It has been great fostering Mavis Young at Heart it the best way to
describe Mavis, dont let those grey hairs around her muzzle fool you
She is lovely natured she is like a puppy really enjoying her walks and
full of the joys of spring but with all the benefits of an older dog as
she is fully house trained and loves nothing better than to curl up
next to you on or on your knee She reminds so much of Puss in Boots
in Shrek when she sits there looking up at you with her tail wagging 10
to the dozen. She prefers wet food to dry and enjoys her chewy sticks.
As Wendy a fellow fosterer said she loves to bring you her toy and
sometimes her chewy stick
Mavis also enjoys impersonating a hot water bottle electric blanket and
likes nothing better than curling up next to you on the bed. She got on
well with my next door neighbours Jack Russell cross. After an initial
few barks when they were on their own patch once they were out
walking on neutral territory they got on fine.
As I type this on my laptop you may ask where is Mavis Yes you guessed
she is curled up next to me snug as a bug in a rug Mavis had 3 walks
today and she is always keen to walk and is very fit
Mavis is a fabulous dog and really deserves a loving home
Cheers

BRUCE WENT OUT ON FOSTER FOR THE WEEKEND
THIS IS WHAT OUR FOSTER LADY SAID I’ve seen Bruce at the kennels many times when I have fostered a dog and always thought ‘oh he must have a real sore throat he’s always barking’. This time when I went to foster, I thought I would give Bruce a break from the kennels and thought, what the heck I can always take headache tablets if the barking is too bad! So off we went As I had expected Bruce got into my car and was barking his own special bark. I started travelling home, within 5 minutes all went quiet in the back of the car. I turned around to look and there was Bruce lying down on the seat quite content, I couldn’t believe it! After the initial close inspection of my home and garden, I gave Bruce his bed, toys and a treat, he settled down and made himself at home. Bruce has surprised me at how quiet he is in a home environment. The only times he has barked was with excitement when he knew he was going for a walk. He enjoys going for walks and is good on his lead. We haven’t been close to other dogs on our travels, however he doesn’t seem to be bothered when another dog is nearby.Bruce is fully house trained, he quickly learned the house rules and understands the commands sit, give a paw, lie down, etc. Bruce loves attention, he loves to sit beside you for cuddles and tickles and often rolls over for his favorite tummy tickle. He hasn’t damaged anything in my home but he has chewed a soft toy I gave him to play with, so I would recommend only giving him hard wearing toys to avoid the possibility of him swallowing any foam/fir/etc.Bruce is a big softie, a very loving dog. He will make a great, loyal companion. Give him a chance, you’ll be surprised, I was.

We took Kimba on Tuesday with warnings she could sometimes prove to be difficult . On arriving home she bolted to the back door and proved difficult to move, slowly she settled in.
Over the next few days she became a different dog,she was interested in everyone and started to enjoy her walks.
Very quickly she is becoming a member of the family and taking up residence in certain parts of the house.
One week on she is still a little nervouse but gaining confidence by the hour.
Starting to enjoy meeting people and other dogs.
The future is looking better all the time.

BRUNO HAS FOUND A LOVELY FAMILY TO JOIN TODAY

Hi my brother and his family including me came to the kennels today and decided Bruno should be part of the family.  He was fantastic in the car and on meeting my family accepted all with a wagging tail, we decided not to introduce him to my husky just yet, but that may happen in the future.  He is a lovely boy, but may be getting a new name.  I will let you know how he is getting on in the future on my brother's behalf.
Thank you for all of your help, everyone was wonderful
