 | WORKING WITH DURHAM COUNTY COUNCIL TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP |
Stray dogs come to DEERNESS KENNELS from Darlington Borough Council and Sedgefield, Durham, Easington, Chester-le-Street, Wear Valley Teesdale and Derwentside areas now known as Durham County Council. All dogs are kept here for seven clear days for their owners to collect. If you have lost your dog in any of these areas please Tel 0191 3780439 to check if your dog is here at the kennels, your dog could have been picked up by the dog warden from your council. We only display dogs that are not collected by their owners which we have taken onto our rescue side. If you put a name disc on your dog or have it microchipped it is easier to trace you as the owner. In most areas of Durham County we can Microchip FREE here at the kennels or by the council dog warden. Remember to change your details if you move house or change your phone number. A Microchip does not give you the right to let your dog stray. Always maintain a collar and disc on your dog.
All strays will then be donated to DEERNESS KENNELS RESCUE CENTRE STRAY ACTION FOR DOGS. Our Pledge is to keep all dogs not reclaimed by their owners (unless very agressive to people) in a safe haven untill we can rehouse them or find them a place of safety. If you think you can help any of these dogs PLEASE do get in touch. We have commited ourselves to a non-destruction policy.
The vet will then give the dog a health check, vaccinate, deflea, worm, microchip and neuter (or provide a voucher for this to be done). Our Vet is Mr Kevin Walton of Vets 4 Pets at Framwellgatemoor Durham He comes to the kennels 3 times a week to check the dogs Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons A contribution of around £75 is required. We accept Cash, Credit, Debit Cards and Cheques with a valid bank card. IF the dog is an older dog or it as been in Rescue for some time then any donation will be acceptable. All dogs are Vaccinated, Neutered, De-flead,wormed and Microchipped with four weeks free insurance The Total of dogs not reclaimed are shockingly high July 10 = 69 June 10 = 51 May 10 = 46 April 10 = 83 October 09 to March 10 = 394 October 08 to September 09 = 700 October 07 to September 08 = 758 October 06 to September 07 = 739 A TOTAL OF 2,810 DOGS HAVE BEEN RESCUED if you could give a dog a good home please call over and have a look at the dogs available
